Plaid's pricing page is visually appealing, but it is anything but clear. "Free" is self-explanatory, and the "at scale" $500/mo price, but anyone launching an app (and shopping for this service) needs to understand the "launch" pricing. "Pay as you go" is not something I can plan for. Is it $100 transaction? A penny? Is there a cap? NOT helpful.

That's fair! I think they do a great job of driving action. Any serious prospect will get in touch to learn more, and that's what their pricing page is all about.

Well that's what all B2B SAAS pricing pages do. What's so different about Plaid? According to the popular narrative of good pricing pages, Vendor should NOT judge whether a prospect is serious or not; Prospect should be free to get all the information required to make the business case whether they are serious or not at that stage; Prospect should contact Vendor Sales only when Prospect wishes to do so. I don't necessarily agree with the popular narrative but Plaid doesn't do any of this. You claim Plaid allows Prospect to build business case without contacting Sales. How's that possible in the case of second or third plans? Pay as You Go is notorious for highly fluctuating bills even after signing a contract. It's impossible to build a business case with fixed outflows with PAYG pricing model. Overall, the only difference I find in Plaid's pricing page compared to other B2B SAAS pricing pages is this: It has three different CTA buttons (API,...) instead of one single "Contact Sales" CTA button.

Totally agree. It's silly to claim that a PAYG plan provides all the info required to build a business case. I know companies that have signed up for PAYG many years ago and still brace for a rude bill shock when they get the SAAS vendor's bill every month.
