Get a Personalized ROI Assessment
Today’s post is brought to you by Blue Rocket, a boutique pricing consultancy that works with some of the biggest players in SaaS.
Blue Rocket is led by Jason Kap, a SaaS pricing legend who spent 16 years leading pricing and licensing at Microsoft.
Measuring the ROI of a pricing project can be HARD, but the team at Blue Rocket has it down to a science. It’s one reason they’re the pricing partner of choice for SaaS juggernauts like Salesforce, Google, and Zendesk.
The Blue Rocket ROI Calculator customized variables based on your company and business model to determine the revenue you could be missing out on.
If you’ve been on the fence about a pricing project, the ROI calculator will give you the hard numbers to build a case. Having seen Blue Rocket’s work firsthand, I can’t recommend it enough.
▶ Docusign [A/B Test]
Docusign seems to be running a test to inform how they describe features within each plan. One version has tighter copy and is primarily limited to feature names, while the other has lengthier more descriptive copy for each feature. Which do you prefer? Check the update and share your feedback by hitting the button below.
▶ Veed [Packaging Update]
Veed is running a test with and without its Business plan. The new plan mix is cool: they moved a few Business features to Pro (namely Translations and AI tools), and are primarily differentiating Enterprise with usage, enterprise security, and dedicated support. [view update]
⚒️ Product and Features
▶ Hootsuite [New Feature]
Hootsuite added AI Generator features for Captions, Hashtags, and Ideas to all their plans. Some customers are likely already doing this in ChatGPT or other platforms. It feels like table-stakes AI functionality at this point, but if Hootsuite can leverage their data to offer meaningfully better AI tools for social, it will increase product usage and stickiness. Totally agree with offering this across all plans. [view update]
▶ Jasper [New Features]
Jasper added a couple new features. They added Jasper Chat (AI copywriting assistant) to the Creator plan, and added AI Image Generation and editing tools to the Pro plan. No surprise with these updates given Jasper’s positioning as the all-in-one AI copilot for marketers. Similar to Hootsuite, Jasper will have to prove its AI tools are better than those offered by Notion, Canva, and other SaaS players. [view update]
▶ Fivetran [New Feature]
Fivetran added a Hybrid Deployment Option to its Enterprise plan. Enterprise companies have sensitive data that they might want in their own environment. Would imagine it might require customer success resources to make sure that data feeds into Fivetran properly. This feels like the right plan alignment. [view update]
▶ Squarespace [New Feature]
Squarespace added the ability to take appointments with Acuity Scheduling across all plans. This is an interesting way to both boost their own functionality while also providing value for a partner (they offer a free one month trial of Acuity Scheduling). Many companies just list the number of integrations they offer, but explicitly calling out functionality and naming the partner is an interesting alternative. Squarespace also rolled out Member Areas (ability to sell memberships/subscriptions) across all plans (it was previously limited to the Advanced Commerce plan). [view update]
⚙️ Pricing and Packaging
▶ Dropbox [New Discount]
Dropbox introduced a 25% for the Plus plan (their entry-level paid plan). The discount is communicated through a pop-up that highlights how much more storage you can get out of Plus (1,000x). Seems like a clear attempt to drive more free-to-paid conversion, and to drive more Plus sign-ups from the jump. This makes a ton of sense given the monstrous percentage of free Dropbox users. 🎨 Pricing Page Design
▶ Moz [Pricing Page Design]
Moz revamped its pricing page with two big adjustments. First, they updated the color scheme, making the page more engaging. Second, and more importantly, they pulled the usage limits for each plan from the packaging grid to the main plan overview. Previously, visitors had to scroll to compare usage limits, but now all limits are visible immediately. Love this move for heavy PLG products like Moz — it saves visitors time and helps them figure out which plan is for them in 30 seconds or less. [view update]
▶ Loom [Copy Tweak]
Loom made a subtle update to a feature on the Business plan. Previously, Loom referred to the feature as “Rewind: Pause, Trim, and Keep Recording.” Now, the feature is called “Live Rewind” and there’s a small button that visitors can hover over, which provides more information. I am a fan of any copy editing that tightens the page, and would imagine “Live Rewind” stokes curiosity — it sounds cool and is not a well understood feature yet. That said, I’m still not totally sure what this feature does from the description. I’m guessing it means you can edit your video as you record. If that’s the case, I’d argue Loom can clarify the description that pops up in the additional info button. [view update]
▶ Recurly [CTA Update]
Recurly updated CTAs on the Professional and Elite plans from “Learn More” to “Pricing Request.” Makes sense since a pricing request is a more explicit action, and will help the Recurly team understand intent right off the bat. [view update]
