We see hundreds of pricing changes every month. Below, we’ve collected 10 of our favorites from the past year, organized by the objective. Enjoy!
To Drive Paid Conversions…
Hootsuite added a discount CTA under the Free Trial CTA to drive faster paid conversions from visitors in the consideration stage.
To Reduce Friction…
Mailchimp took a page out of NYT’s playbook, offering a $1 price for the first month. This requires visitors to add credit card info, lowering friction when upgrade time comes around.
To Change Perception…
Shopify anchored visitors to a much higher price point to make their main plans look cheap by comparison. Pricing Psychology 101.
To Create Urgency…
Hubspot pre-announced an upcoming pricing increase to drive visitors to act fast in order to capitalize on lower prices.
To drive free-to-paid conversion…
Evernote reduced the limits of the free plan (AKA SaaS Shrinkflation) in an effort to drive more free users to a paid plan.
To Drive Product Usage…
Notion added a toggle that automatically included Notion AI in each plan (and increased the price point of each plan).
To increase team-wide adoption…
Canva increased the minimum number of users for each plan.
To realign value…
Vimeo changed its value metric on the Starter plan from Videos to Storage.
To serve different use-cases…
Semrush added sets of plans for different customer profiles.
To increase ACV…
Airtable updated plans with new names and raised prices.
Thanks for tuning in and see you next week!
